I liked the smaller campus and smaller class sizes because it makes it easier to make friends and communicate with professors while still providing a competitive environment for athletics.

Last year in a game against UNC Pembroke I hit an inside the park homerun.

I enjoy reading and writing when I feel like being by myself. Otherwise, I love going to the beach, going to the movies and going to concerts.

Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada. She is an aspiring writer who is willing to bend over backwards to get the job she wants.

Musco Student-Athlete Spotlight – Alex Bonus

Name:  Alex Bonus

Institution:  Flagler

Sport:  Cross Country

Major:  Communication and Sociology

Year in School:  Senior

Hometown:  Palmyra, PA

Why did you choose a Division II institution?

I wanted to thrive in an atmosphere that put equal weight on both academics and athletics.

What is your most memorable experience to date as a student-athlete?

My most memorable experience was planning and running the Lionheart Relay last Spring. As a team, we logged 187 miles from Savannah, GA to St. Augustine FL to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In all, we raised over $3,500. Not only was it a wonderful team bonding experience, but we were able to use our athletic ability for a great cause.

What are your career aspirations?

I would like to one day work for the public affairs office in the US State Department, employing my communication background in an international environment.

What was the first job you ever had?

I was a Caricature Artist at Hersheypark in 10th and 11th grade.

What is your favorite pre-game meal?

Sweet Sixteen donuts!

If you could be a student-athlete in a sport other than your own, what would it be?

I would have loved to play soccer because it employs running but takes a lot of skill to play. I’m always impressed with what soccer players can do under high pressure. However, my hand-eye coordination has only ever been good enough to run.

What is your favorite song to listen to before you compete?

“Collide” by Howie Day

What is your favorite book?

Once a Runner by John L. Parker, Jr.

What is your favorite sports team (other than the one you play for)?

Palmyra Cougars Cross Country

What is your favorite vacation spot?

St. Augustine — but only because its one of two places I’ve vacationed!

When you are not hitting the books, what are your hobbies?

Eating, napping, relaxing at the beach.

What animal are you most like, and why?

I would say I’m most like a dolphin. I love the water and I love carefree fun. I also feel like people are generally happy to see me when I’m around, just like people love to see dolphins at the beach.

Name an actor/actress that is most like you, and why?

I’m always told I look exactly like Elijah Wood–but I can’t say we have the same personality.
